BANGKOK, 18 May 2012 - Action on Smoking and Health Foundation has urged the government to forbid the tobacco industry from conducting social activities, in compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention for Tobacco Control (FCTC).As the World No Tobacco Day is approaching on May 31st, anti smoking activists have reported that many tobacco companies in ASEAN have been conducting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects to forge good relations with law makers in the countries they are located in.

APAC consumers more likely to pay extra for socially responsible brands PDF Print E-mail

Half of consumers under age 40 are willing to pay extra for products and services from socially-responsible companies, according to Nielsen’s Global Survey of Corporate Citizenship.The survey, conducted with more than 28,000 consumers in 56 countries, shows that overall 46% are willing to pay extra for products and services from companies that have implemented programs to give back to society, a figure higher among under-40s at 51%.

BINTULU: Suhakam’s Public Hearings for National Inquiry into Land Rights of Indigenous Peoples raised serious questions on ways corporations or businesses implement and understand corporate social responsibility (CSR).The international interpretation of CSR, according to commissioner of Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) James Nayagam, is about finding ways to integrate human rights concerns in business operations and strategies, emphasising the role of human rights due diligence.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Top U.S. chief executives lamented on Monday a lack of interest from investors in their efforts to do social good and suggested the creation of a social responsibility index of companies that would help educate shareholders on the value of philanthropy.With global economic uncertainty tightening government purse strings, about 70 chief executives who met in New York for a Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy conference said business leaders had to step up to help tackle the world's woes.

Workers' rights advocates continued to call for a living wage for Cambodian garment workers yesterday, on the second day of testimony before a panel of judges who will release their recommendations tomorrow.“Responsibility [to pay a living wage] is up to the brands and retailers because they have access to high-end consumers,” Ababbta Bhattachaarjee, a delegate from the international coordinating office of the Asia Floor Wage Campaign, said.
