The Malaysian Association was established in September 2004, to ensure that the voice of consumers is heard and concerns addressed during the development of standards in Malaysia. Standards Users was established with the support of the Department of Standards Malaysia (STANDARDS MALAYSIA).

Since then, Standards Users has embarked on various promotional efforts to raise awareness on the importance of standards among the general public. Among these efforts are:

  • Essay Writing Competition

  • Development of Activity Books for Young Consumers

  • Development of popular education on standards

  • Training of civil society leaders on the importance of standards

  • Train the Trainer for Teachers on the Use of the Activity Books for Young Consumers

  • Media appearance and letters to editors

  • Involvement and participation in the Standards Development Committee

  • And others including regional and international level participation such as the ISO Consumer Policy Committee or ISO COPOLCO.

Participation of youths especially in the essay writing competition on standards has doubled and continues to increase especially with additional school out reach programmes.

In 2007 Standards Users was entrusted with a substantial grant by STANDARDS MALAYSIA to continue to carry out promotional activity on standards and also social responsibility. Through smart partnership with government agencies, Malaysia has become a model often cited at international meetings on how government and non government organisations can work together to achieve better quality of life for consumers.

With continued support from STANDARDS MALAYSIA, professionalism, competency and continually seeking to improve to better current efforts and achievements, Standards Users will definitely achieve it objective to become a true advocate of quality and safety for consumers.
