BANTING: Thirty people have been hospitalised for flu-like illnesses on Saturday, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Currently, 234 people were still being treated in hospitals around the country, with 10 confirmed Influenza A(H1N1) cases. Three people, including two children under the age of five who are considered a high-risk group, have been warded at intensive care units, added Liow. As at yesterday, the country’s death toll from A(H1N1) still stood at 77 out of 12,220 confirmed cases, he told reporters after closing the 12th National Undergraduates Leadership Camp organised by MCA Youth yesterday. Liow said with confirmed cases making up less than 10% of the total number of hospital patients, Malaysia’s situation remained under control. He added that no cluster cases had been reported. Liow urged the public to be wary of the second wave of the Influenza A(H1N1) virus. He said countries in the northern hemisphere, such as Japan and southern part of China, had reported a rise in new cases. Source from: The Star |
