Malaysia’s trade policy has continuously evolved throughout the years, prompted by many pragmatic considerations and analysis. Before independence, the country focused more on exporting agricultural commodities and minerals instead of manufactured products. Later however, it has moved its shaft to industrial revolution where it has started focusing aggressively on international trade and liberalisation. As part of its efforts in this direction, Malaysia has since ratified trade ties with many other nations and also participates actively in multilateral as well as regional organisations such as ASEAN and APEC, continuing its efforts in pursuing access to new markets.
