On the heels of Cargill's 36 million pound recall of ground turkey sparked by a antibiotic-resistant Salmonella outbreak, a group of Democratic lawmakers sent a letter Tuesday to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration urging more oversight of antibiotics used in food animal production.

Denmark takes its Salmonella seriously - even in raw poultry.
Since the beginning of this year, Denmark has recorded seven recalls of raw poultry products due to Salmonella contamination. The recalled chicken and turkey products originated in Brazil (1 recall), Denmark (1 recall), Hungary (3 recalls), Germany (1 recall), and Poland (1 recall).

FDA Sets Food Safety Fees, Seeks Comment |

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that became law in January gives the U.S. Food and Drug Administration the authority to impose and collect fees from food producers when the agency has to reinspect food manufacturing or processing facilities and when inspectors must verify compliance following a food recall.
